The Food Service Worker role within the Food & Nutrition Services department at UMC Health System is integral to the overall patient care experience. This multifaceted position involves a range of duties, including food preparation, cooking, cleaning, food delivery, and direct interaction with patients and their families. Working under the supervision of the Food & Nutrition Services Supervisor, the role supports the department's mission to provide nutritious, safe, and appealing meals to patients, cafeteria visitors, and during special catering events. The responsibilities encompass everything from assisting in the planning and preparation of menu options to ensuring the cleanliness and sanitization of kitchen and dining areas. The Food Service Worker plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of the food service environment, ensuring that all meals served meet strict quality and safety standards. This includes monitoring food temperatures, replenishing menu options and service ware, and using kitchen equipment efficiently and safely. This position demands a collaborative spirit and an ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The role also requires physical stamina, as employees may lift up to 50 pounds and spend prolonged periods standing or walking. Working conditions include exposure to varying indoor temperatures and occasional contact with cleaning chemicals. To uphold the highest safety and sanitation standards, the Food Service Worker must adhere to all documentation and regulatory requirements, including proper logging and charting of food production activities. Obtaining a Food Handlers Permit within 90 days of hire is mandatory for this position.
