Within this division, the role of Supervisor III - Food Services is a pivotal leadership position responsible for managing food preparation, procurement, catering, and transportation operations. Reporting directly to the Division Manager - Recreation/Senior Services, this role demands a hands-on leader who oversees kitchen and transportation employees, ensuring compliance with all city and regulatory policies related to food service and safety. The Supervisor III ensures that all food services operate smoothly and efficiently, while maintaining superior food quality, safety, and service standards. This supervisory role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including staff recruitment, hiring, training, management, and scheduling. The incumbent is tasked with overseeing day-to-day kitchen operations, menu development, food preparation and presentation, and inventory control. Additionally, the role entails managing procurement processes, approving invoices, and maintaining budgets for food services. The supervisor will also lead event-specific food service setups and takedowns and ensure the cleanliness and safety of kitchen equipment and facilities. The position requires collaboration with the Division Manager to define services and prepare menus for events and activities. The Supervisor III must demonstrate exceptional organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills, managing personnel issues diplomatically while fostering a team environment. Strong operational oversight includes creating detailed reports tracking food costs, employee safety, performance, and other key performance metrics. Candidates for this role must be capable of operating motor vehicles safely for transportation of food and staff to various locations and be adept in using office technology and software such as Microsoft Office. They are expected to maintain up-to-date operational manuals and comply with physical demands related to lifting, standing, walking, and other routine tasks associated with food service management. The role requires holding a Food Manager's Certificate and a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain these within 90 days of employment. Advanced certifications such as Certified Dietary Manager and Certified Food Protection Professional are also necessary or must be attained promptly. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of large-scale food service supervisory experience, five years of purchasing and budget management experience, and demonstrate thorough knowledge of food and nutrition regulations, especially those concerning senior populations. Overall, this is a comprehensive supervisory role that combines culinary expertise, administrative capability, compliance adherence, and team leadership to support the Division’s mission of providing excellent recreation and senior services in Abilene.
