The role of General Manager at the Salt Palace Convention Center is a senior leadership position responsible for the comprehensive management, promotion, and operational oversight of the facility. Reporting to regional leadership that includes the Regional Manager, Regional Vice President, or Senior Vice President, this role commands full ownership of all facility operations ranging from purchasing, bookings, and marketing to finance, human resources, food and beverage services, box office, advertising, security, production, maintenance, and parking management. The General Manager is tasked with negotiating lease agreements and contracts with vendors and event organizers while fostering effective relationships with key stakeholders such as convention and visitors bureaus and destination marketing agencies.
This position involves the strategic development and execution of facility goals aligned with contractual obligations, client objectives, corporate policies, and sound business practices. The General Manager plans, organizes, and directs the activities and personnel involved in facility maintenance and operations. They play a pivotal role in the creation and advancement of the annual operating calendar, scheduling, attendance projections, and managing financial and operational reports, including budgets and capital expenditures. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, training, performance evaluation, and employee relations in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. A critical aspect of this role is the demonstration of entrepreneurial focus, strong client commitment, and the ability to drive economic impact through effective partnerships with community stakeholders and the hospitality industry.
