The position of Sous Chef at Oakmont of San Antonio Heights plays a vital role in maintaining the high standards of dining service for residents, their families, and visitors. The Sous Chef is responsible for preparing food according to approved menus, property policies, procedures, and all health and safety regulations. In the absence of the Culinary Services Director, the Sous Chef assumes leadership over the Culinary Department, ensuring the delivery of quality food service at all times and directing kitchen operations effectively.
The role calls for an individual who can ensure that the dining experience is of superior quality, from menu selection and meal preparation to presentation and service. This includes assisting in the planning and preparation of meals for daily service as well as special occasions like events, parties, and marketing activities. The Sous Chef must adhere to sanitary regulations and company policies, report any infractions, and develop culinary procedures that ensure timely service and appropriate food temperatures.
Efficient portion control and food consistency are key duties, as is managing inventory and stock levels of food, supplies, and equipment. This role also requires active participation in purchasing, inventory management, and ensuring a sanitary work environment in line with local codes. The Sous Chef must collaborate closely with the Culinary Services Director to maintain quality standards and contribute to resident satisfaction by regularly engaging with residents to accommodate special preferences. This position demands operational management skills, especially when stepping in for the Culinary Services Director to oversee staffing and supervision.

- Must be eighteen years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Prefer six months of experience working in a restaurant or similar environment as a cook
- Must pass a criminal background check and health screening tests including physical and TB tests
- Able to safely operate standard cooking equipment and utensils
- Able to operate a personal computer and office equipment
- Must comply with COVID-19 related health and safety requirements
