The role of Sous Chef at The Summit Senior Living in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a full-time position offering a competitive starting wage of $22.00 to $24.00 per hour. The shift schedule is Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. This culinary leadership position is designed for a passionate and skilled individual ready to oversee kitchen operations within a senior living community. As a Sous Chef, you will ensure that food is prepared to high culinary standards that both delight residents and maintain good portion control and waste management. You will act as a Kitchen Curator, taking responsibility for supervising and inspecting all culinary services, including equipment maintenance, food storage rotation, and sanitation practices.
Additionally, the Sous Chef functions as a Culinary Captain by leading the kitchen team through engagement, coaching, maintaining performance expectations, and accountability measures. The position requires excellent communication skills to collaborate with management, professional, and support staff effectively. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in senior housing or a related field, although this is preferred and not mandatory. A background in formal culinary or food service training—or equivalent supervisory or management experience—is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email communication is also required.
The job demands physical stamina as it involves standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping for extended periods, frequently lifting or moving items up to 50 pounds. Candidates must be comfortable working near extreme temperatures, including hot cooking surfaces and cold walk-in freezers.
