The Catering Sales Manager role at Mayo Civic Center plays a critical part in this team by working in conjunction with members of the sales and events staff to market, sell, contract, and detail events. This position requires leadership skills to mentor the catering sales team towards achieving sales and marketing goals, employing strategic sales principles and creative marketing initiatives. The manager assists in developing a comprehensive sales plan, prospecting for new and repeat business, and using advertising support to implement sales strategies. Key responsibilities include auditing client accounts to ensure accuracy, quoting rates and pricing estimates, preparing contracts, and maintaining strong partnerships with operational departments and destination marketing organizations. This role demands detailed knowledge of event menus, cost structures, and profitability guidelines, with responsibilities extending to coordinating client meetings, facilitating menu tastings, managing pre- and post-event communications, and producing sales reports. Supervisory duties include hiring, training, performance appraisals, and resolving employee issues, in compliance with company policies and applicable laws. Candidates for this position should possess an associate degree in hospitality or related fields and have at least four years of sales experience, preferably within the venue or hospitality industry. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and supervisory skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and demonstrate professional presentation and work ethic. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required, along with the capability to work independently and interact effectively across all levels of staff. The job may require long and irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as some travel.
