This job opportunity is for a Full-time Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) position based at the Charlotte Air Traffic Control Tower (CLT) in Charlotte, North Carolina. The RPO role is crucial in supporting air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This position involves operating a combined simulated radar display and voice communication system to mimic the roles of pilots and remote air traffic control during training exercises that range in fidelity level. The Remote Pilot Operator is responsible for simulating pilot actions by responding to voice commands from trainee air traffic controllers and inputting appropriate entries into the automated systems. The operator translates displayed information into proper air traffic control terminology and communicates effectively using correct phraseology via the Voice Communication System (VCS). The RPO role is integral to helping train and prepare new air traffic controllers by providing realistic simulation environments that enhance learning and proficiency. Candidates for this position must complete specialized certifications including classroom tests on airspace and procedures as well as lab performance assessments to demonstrate competency as a Remote Pilot Operator on all positions. This role demands a keen understanding of air traffic control principles and procedures to ensure communication efficiency and simulation accuracy. The FAA, responsible for ensuring safe and efficient air traffic control services nationwide, relies on trained air traffic specialists to manage the daily movement of over 50,000 aircraft through the National Airspace System (NAS). To maintain high standards of safety and professionalism, the FAA contracts instructional service providers like SAIC to deliver comprehensive training and ongoing support at FAA air traffic control facilities throughout the United States and its territories. This collaborative effort ensures that air traffic control students receive high-quality training to become fully certified controllers, able to manage operations at various ATC facility types and levels. The Remote Pilot Operator position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to national aviation safety by supporting controller training programs through advanced simulation technology. This position is fully remote, providing candidates the flexibility to work off-site while engaging in vital training operations. By joining SAIC's Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team, candidates become part of an innovative and mission-driven environment that enhances aviation safety and efficiency across the nation.
