American Councils for International Education is a premier international nonprofit organization dedicated to creating educational opportunities that empower individuals and institutions to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly evolving global landscape. With a professional staff of over 400 employees spread across the United States and in countries throughout Eastern Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, American Councils designs and administers academic exchange programs, overseas language immersion initiatives, data-driven research projects, and educational development efforts. These programs help broaden perspectives, deepen cross-cultural understanding, and increase knowledge for participants from diverse backgrounds. The organization is headquartered in Washington, DC, where the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant will serve as the first point of contact for visitors, callers, and guests from its broad international network. This full-time, entry-level role offers an hourly pay range of $23 to $25. As the face of American Councils' Washington office, the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant is responsible for greeting each phone call and visitor with professionalism and warmth. This role demands exceptional customer service skills to promptly and accurately direct inquiries to the appropriate parties, enhancing the organization's operational efficiency and external relations. In addition to managing telephone communications and visitor reception, this position involves handling a wide range of administrative duties such as managing mail and package distribution, overseeing conference room bookings, maintaining office directories and mailing lists through SharePoint, coding invoice payments, and assisting with office logistics and maintenance reports. The role also supports other administrative staff and the HR Director as needed, playing a critical part in ensuring smooth, daily office operations. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, proactive, well-organized, and adept at multitasking in a busy office environment. Familiarity with customer service protocols, especially involving international visitors and callers, is essential. Proficiency with basic computer software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and SharePoint is required, while foreign language skills and multicultural experience are preferred. This role is strictly on-site within Washington, DC, requiring a full workweek from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. American Councils emphasizes its commitment to equal employment opportunities in compliance with federal laws, including support for individuals with disabilities and veterans. The organization fosters an inclusive workplace where employees are judged on merit and supported in their career growth.
