The role of Lead Cook is crucial within this ministry’s food service program. This is a full-time position requiring the individual to work from Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm. The Lead Cook is responsible for preparing meals in large batches for various program participants, ensuring that food service operations run smoothly and meet the high-volume demands of the ministry’s kitchen. This role involves more than just cooking; it supports the ministry’s broader mission by providing nourishing meals that sustain and encourage participants on their journey. The Lead Cook will manage food service preparation and production, coordinate with vendors to ensure ingredient availability, and maintain food safety and security through regular inspections. Additionally, this position involves direct interaction with volunteers, orienting and supervising them to assist effectively in meal preparation and kitchen operations. A key part of the role includes coaching, training, and evaluating student workers, which supports the development of skills among the ministry’s workforce pool.
Successful performance in this role is measured by several key indicators, including the production of three meals per day at the ministry’s facility, efficient use of donated ingredients and items, and effective volunteer supervision and training. The Lead Cook must be highly organized, creative, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This position requires strong culinary skills, food handling expertise, and a heart for service. Candidates with culinary training or education are highly desired, along with holding a ServSafe Certificate that ensures compliance with food safety standards.
