Santa Clara, CA, USA, CA Full-Time $150,000 - $150,000
The hiring family is a wonderful semi-formal household located in the Bay Area, consisting of a young couple and their three children aged 3, 5, and 7 years old. This family values healthy and well-balanced meals, prioritizing the use of quality, mostly organic and seasonal ingredients. The home environment is warm, supportive, and family-centric, creating an ideal setting for a chef who enjoys working in a family environment and adapts to growing and evolving needs. The family underlines the importance of nutrition and education around healthy eating, particularly for their children, making this role both a culinary and educational opportunity. As the family expands and their schedules change, the chef's responsibilities are flexible and designed to adapt accordingly. Communication and cooperation are key, as this role reports directly to the Estate Manager to coordinate the home’s culinary and food needs effectively. This opportunity is ideal for a dedicated and versatile Chef to holistically manage all aspects of the family’s daily and special occasion food needs. The Chef's mandate includes preparing healthy, nourishing meals for the parents and children, educating the children on healthy eating habits, and engaging them in cooking projects occasionally. The workload can be fulfilled by one full-time chef or divided between two part-time chefs, providing flexibility in scheduling. Typical working hours are Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on four days, with one extended day from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Additionally, the Chef is expected to prepare brunch or dinner twice a month on weekends, ensuring the family enjoys quality meals even on special days. The role requires a culinary professional who is passionate about nutrition and variety in cuisine, able to deliver meals that are both tasty and healthy. The position also involves meal planning, grocery shopping at premium stores and managing inventory with meticulous attention to detail, including monitoring expiry dates on all pantry, refrigerator, and freezer items. More than just cooking, this Chef will provide coffee and snack service during business meetings or when hosting guests at home, ensuring the hospitality needs of the household are met with discretion and grace. In this role, maintaining a quiet and light presence in the home is emphasized, reflecting respect for the family’s lifestyle and privacy. The ideal candidate will have excellent planning skills, be organized, and demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently, sometimes on short notice as priorities shift. The Chef will also contribute by logging food macros for calorie and nutrient tracking, an important element in supporting the family’s health goals. Meal planning and culinary coordination extend beyond the home, supporting the principals during travel with hotel meal planning, underscoring the dynamic and demanding nature of this position. This is a highly rewarding role for a culinary professional who enjoys a private family home setting and takes pride in crafting wholesome meals that nourish both body and mind.
