The Kitchen Utility Attendant plays a crucial support role within IU Catering and Hospitality. This role emphasizes the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in all kitchen and dining areas as part of the overall dining experience. The attendant ensures that all facilities, from dish rooms to dining rooms and restrooms, meet rigorous cleaning and safety standards. Responsibilities include performing traditional custodial work as well as ware-washing and dishwashing tasks to maintain an environment where guests feel safe and comfortable eating their meals.
Beyond routine cleaning duties, the Kitchen Utility Attendant actively supports kitchen operations by maintaining equipment such as dishwashers and floor scrubbers, managing waste disposal and recycling tasks, and restocking service areas. The position requires coordination with students and temporary employees, requiring the attendant to provide guidance and oversight on custodial and ware-washing procedures. The role involves significant physical activity, including moving supplies, loading and unloading trucks, and setting up furniture for events.
Working shift hours typically fall between 12:00 pm and 1:00 am and vary according to business needs, with management reserving the right to adjust hours to fit special meals or campus events. This position is foundational within the IU Dining and Hospitality structure and aligns with IU’s high standards for operational excellence and customer service.

- Food Safety (ServSafe) certification within 180 days from date of hire
