The Hospitality Operations Manager at Yale Hospitality serves as a key ambassador of the university's residential dining services. Reporting to the Managing Director of Residential Operations, this full-time, staff-level Manager role is located at 246 Church Street, New Haven. The position offers a competitive salary range between $68,000 and $120,500, aligned with the candidate's qualifications and experience. As a pivotal member of the Hospitality team, the Operations Manager oversees front-of-the-house operations across a large zone of dining halls within the university’s residential dining program. This responsibility includes ensuring that food quality meets exacting standards in preparation, taste, portioning, and presentation during meal hours, all while maintaining the highest levels of cleanliness.
The role requires supervising a team of 25 to 30 unionized staff and accomplished culinary professionals. Providing leadership, coaching, and development to the team is a vital part of ensuring that students, faculty, and staff enjoy exceptional dining experiences. The manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining service standards, overseeing customer service policies, and implementing quality assurance practices. They ensure compliance with food safety, handling, and sanitation standards, reflective of Yale's reputation for excellence.
This role also demands collaboration with university constituents such as Heads of Colleges and Deans to create a guest-centric atmosphere through guest feedback and continuous service improvement initiatives. The Hospitality Operations Manager leads operations that include residential student meals, executive dining, cafes, and catering for special events. They are involved in menu forecasting, large-scale event planning, inventory control, and financial management by monitoring revenue and expenses. Furthermore, the manager processes payroll, manages staff scheduling and attendance, and engages in performance evaluations and employee relations. - Bachelor's degree in Hotel or Restaurant Management or related field
- Four years of previous service management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
