The Technical Operations division at United Airlines is essential to ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the airline's fleet. This team includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, and supply chain professionals who work together to maintain over 1050 aircraft, providing seamless service to customers worldwide. Within this division, the role of Director - Line Maintenance Planning plays a critical leadership role focused on optimizing the maintenance planning for line operations to ensure aircraft availability aligns with the network schedule while upholding regulatory compliance and safety standards.
As the Director of Line Maintenance Planning, you will lead a diverse team responsible for managing both the Network Operations Center (NOC) Line Planning and the field-based maintenance planning teams. This role requires strategic vision and operational expertise to oversee all routine and non-routine line maintenance activities, including scheduled maintenance events, unexpected repairs, and aircraft modifications. You will provide centralized decision-making authority, ensuring the effective scheduling and allocation of labor, parts, tools, and facilities to meet maintenance program requirements and enable aircraft readiness.
This role demands strong interdepartmental collaboration with Tech Ops Maintenance Control, network operations, aircraft routing, and other support teams to align maintenance activities with operational delivery goals. You will act as an advocate for the aircraft within cross-functional teams to maximize maintenance efficiency and minimize operational disruption. Additionally, you will lead efforts to drive continuous improvement within the line planning organization, fostering a mission-driven culture focused on optimizing planning processes and leveraging digital tools for performance monitoring and analysis.
The Director of Line Maintenance Planning role is full-time and requires onsite presence at the Arlington Heights, IL NOC facility, highlighting the need for hands-on leadership and team engagement. Reporting to the Managing Director of Tech Ops Strategy and Performance, this position offers a significant opportunity to influence maintenance operations at a strategic level while supporting the overall transformation and operational excellence initiatives within United's Technical Operations.
The base salary range for this role is $155,895 to $202,960, with compensation reflective of experience, education, and skills. - Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of relevant work experience
- Operations management, supply chain, business, engineering, aviation technology or related field or 10+ years of related experience
- 7+ years of experience in airline operations management and/or planning
- strong background and knowledge of aircraft maintenance systems
- working knowledge of maintenance programs, aircraft routing, aircraft maintenance operations, and FAA/regulatory compliance
- proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications
- strong collaboration and verbal and written skills with ability to effectively interact at all levels and partner with internal and external stakeholders
- ability to prioritize projects and initiatives
