The Full-Time Patient & Family Concierge (PFC) position available on the Neurosurgery Unit 6D at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital offers a unique opportunity to be an integral part of the patient care experience without performing clinical duties. This role is designed for individuals interested in entering the healthcare field who possess a strong desire to help others and make a positive difference. Scheduled for 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the position ensures stable work hours with a competitive starting pay of $18.00 per hour, adjustable based on experience and education.
As a Patient & Family Concierge, the duties involve direct interaction with patients, their families, and clinical staff by providing non-clinical assistance that enhances comfort and satisfaction during hospital stays. Responsibilities include greeting and escorting patients and visitors, assisting with patient transport within the hospital, delivering meals, replenishing supplies, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of spaces. The concierge also supports staff by answering phones and responding promptly to call lights, ensuring smooth communication and service flow. Importantly, the role explicitly excludes clinical tasks such as bathing, mobility assistance, or medical care administration, focusing on logistical and customer service support to foster a compassionate environment.
This role is ideal for someone with a compassionate nature who thrives on interpersonal engagement and is eager to contribute positively to the healthcare environment. Prior healthcare or customer service experience is preferred but not required, making it an excellent entry-level opportunity. Candidates must demonstrate strong enthusiasm, empathy, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately. A high school diploma or active enrollment in a high school/GED program is required, although one year of previous work experience may substitute for this educational prerequisite. All candidates must also acquire Act 34 clearance, demonstrating compliance with necessary background checks to ensure patient safety and trust.
