Montgomery County, located in Pennsylvania, is committed to providing efficient and high-quality public services to its residents. The county operates various facilities and departments aimed at enhancing community well-being, including the correctional and food services sectors. As part of its dedicated food services division within the correctional facilities, Montgomery County manages inmate meal preparation, ensuring that institutional dietary standards and safety protocols are rigorously followed. The Food Services Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in this setting, responsible for supervising inmate kitchen workers and ensuring the seamless operation of meal preparation and service processes. The Food Services Supervisor is integral to maintaining the quality, safety, and sanitation standards of meal preparation within a correctional environment. This role involves supervising the activities of inmate kitchen workers and coordinating the preparation and cooking of meals for inmates and staff. With the challenging responsibility of preparing over 6,500 meals daily, this role demands a leader who can effectively manage both personnel and institutional regulations while motivating inmates to adhere to established standards. Working under the guidance of the Director or Assistant Director of Food Services, the supervisor ensures that each meal period—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—is executed with precision and compliance with health and safety protocols. This position operates on the afternoon shift from 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM, which is designed to cover key meal preparation times within the facility. The Food Services Supervisor must be adaptable, capable of handling unexpected situations while ensuring meals are delivered on time and meet rigorous institutional standards. A deep understanding of sanitation procedures, kitchen equipment maintenance, and correctional facility protocols is essential. The role may also involve conducting in-service training sessions for Food Service personnel and inmate workers, focusing on food safety, hygiene, and proper handling techniques to maintain compliance with county and state regulations. Furthermore, the supervisor has a pivotal role in maintaining equipment to the highest standards, preventing damage and injury, and contributing to a safe and efficient kitchen environment. This involves overseeing the proper use, maintenance, and repair of kitchen equipment to ensure it operates safely and effectively. The supervisor also facilitates communication between the kitchen staff and other facility departments to support overall sanitation practices. In addition to direct supervision and operational duties, the Food Services Supervisor is expected to uphold the Facility Standing Operating Procedures (S.O.P.), ensuring that all activities align with established policies and guidelines. There is also the potential for this role to fill in for the Assistant Director Food Services as needed, requiring flexibility and broad knowledge of the facility’s food service operations. This position is ideal for a candidate with a high school diploma or equivalent and prior experience in food service supervision or a related field, who is capable of working in a demanding and structured correctional facility environment. A criminal history check is mandatory due to the nature of the work and environment. The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that require standing, walking, and manual dexterity. Montgomery County offers this position with a commitment to reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. This job not only requires culinary and supervisory skills but also a strong sense of responsibility and adaptability to ensure the institution’s meal service runs smoothly and safely daily.
