This particular role centers around providing exceptional customer service within WinCo's retail environment that operates nearly 24/7. The position involves working at two-aisle checkout stands, multi-station self-checkout lanes, or customer service desks, ensuring efficiency, courtesy, and accuracy in customer transactions. Employees will take on a variety of responsibilities from operating registers to engaging customers in suggestive selling and maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including handling restricted items like tobacco and alcohol. The role typically requires working shifts between 5:00 am and 1:00 am with a focus on not just transaction processing but also creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers. Enhanced duties are included for those assigned to self-checkouts, such as monitoring multiple transactions simultaneously, addressing technical alerts, and proactively assisting customers to prevent errors and shrinkage. The position demands physical stamina to stand or sit for extended periods and a keen attention to detail in managing sales and monetary transactions. - Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- Communicate effectively using hearing and speech
- Complete written forms
- Conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
- Lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 20 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers and scanners
- Stand or sit for long periods
- Walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
- Have manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations, check stand and keyboard procedures, and company policies
- Ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Navigate and manage high stress situations and unsatisfied customers
- Food safety/handler cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by law
