Grand Central Bakery is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Cafe Shift Lead to join the team at their Cedar Mill Cafe located at 12595 NW Cornell Rd, Portland, OR 97229. This role is crucial to maintaining the vibrant and efficient environment that makes the cafes wonderful community spaces. The Cafe Shift Lead plays an integral role in leading and supporting the daily operations of the cafe by efficiently working across various stations—from customer service to assisting at the sandwich bar during busy rush periods. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with the baking team one day per week and frequently serving as Person In Charge (PIC), overseeing the cafe to ensure smooth operations and compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate for the Cafe Shift Lead position is someone who is enthusiastic about serving delicious food and drinks to a loyal customer base, exhibits professionalism and warmth in customer interactions, and demonstrates flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and particularly Sunday and Monday shifts. This is a full-time role offering a competitive rate of pay of $17.65 per hour plus tips, with an estimated tip average of $6.00 to $7.00 per hour. Physical demands of the job include standing for the entirety of the shift, working amidst a busy and sometimes noisy environment with frequent interruptions, lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds, and working in a bakery setting where exposure to wheat flour dust and other grain dust is common. The organization expects new hires to maintain a valid food handler’s card by the first date of employment, as part of health and safety compliance.
