SpartanNash is a leading food solutions company committed to delivering the ingredients for a better life through customer-focused innovation. We serve a diverse clientele that includes supply chain customers, U.S. military commissaries, retail store guests, and most importantly, our Associates. With a family of 20,000 Associates across various roles—from bakery managers and order selectors to IT developers, vice presidents of finance, HR Business Partners, and export specialists—SpartanNash embodies a strong People First culture focused on operational excellence and insights that drive effective solutions. Our mission is to be indispensable to those we serve by maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer experience. Located at 575 E. Jackson in Elkhart, Indiana, SpartanNash is seeking a dedicated Bakery Associate to join our retail team. This position will work independently to prepare, fry, package, display, and stock bakery products while contributing to the store's financial success. The Bakery Associate will play a vital role in meeting SpartanNash’s company guidelines for guest experience, safety, and food safety standards. This role requires teamwork with other departments and stores to help foster growth and exceptional customer service across the SpartanNash retail network. The Bakery Associate will be responsible for following production plans to prepare bakery products, properly packaging and labeling items to meet company programs, and merchandising bakery goods according to specified flight plans and merchandising expectations. Additionally, the Associate will ensure that stock rooms are maintained by rotating and dating cases and will notify the Bakery Manager if products or supplies need to be ordered. Clear communication with team members regarding tasks, recipes, weights, measures, and cleaning procedures is essential. This role also demands adherence to all personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines, safety rules, and food safety protocols. The Associate may be assigned additional tasks within other departments as necessary to enhance customer experience. SpartanNash values associates who demonstrate attention to detail and basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. While a high school diploma or GED is preferred, one year of retail or related experience is advantageous. The Bakery Associate role entails physical demands such as lifting up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing and walking for extended periods, and frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and turning. Associates will work in a retail store environment subject to varied temperatures and occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Noise levels in the work environment usually range from low to moderate. At SpartanNash, we are proud to cultivate a supportive and inclusive work culture where employees’ development and success are celebrated. Our People First culture ensures robust associate engagement and a comprehensive Total Rewards benefits package. As an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing employment opportunities to all individuals, including those with disabilities and Veterans, SpartanNash promotes a diverse and inclusive workplace where every associate feels a sense of belonging. Please note that we are unable to sponsor work visas for this position. Joining SpartanNash means becoming part of a trusted team dedicated to operational excellence and innovative food solutions.
