The Empire State Plaza Ice Rink is a celebrated seasonal outdoor ice skating facility located in the heart of New York’s Empire State Plaza. Known for its picturesque setting and vibrant community engagement, the rink provides residents and visitors with a memorable recreational experience from November through March each year. Managed by the Office of General Services (OGS), a state agency dedicated to providing quality services and maintaining state properties, the ice rink is an essential feature of the Plaza’s winter activities and a popular destination for all ages. This vacancy for an Ice Rink Manager offers a unique opportunity to lead a widely enjoyed seasonal operation in a dynamic public setting. 
The Ice Rink Manager acts as the primary on-site manager for the Empire State Plaza Ice Rink during the operational months spanning from November to March. This role is responsible for overseeing all administrative and operational activities directly related to the ice rink facility. The manager advises on program policies and development to ensure the facility offers safe, fun, and well-organized skating events and rental services. The position requires managing a team of personnel involved in daily rink operations, including recruiting, scheduling shifts, supervising staff, and ensuring smooth day-to-day activities. Key responsibilities also include financial tasks such as collecting and balancing cash and credit card payments for skate rentals. This role demands strong leadership, excellent customer service, and effective communication skills to liaise with the public and manage staff efficiently. Experience handling cash transactions and comfort with supervisory duties form the backbone of the necessary skill set. Moreover, light custodial duties and operational maintenance of skate rental equipment, such as sharpening machines, are expected parts of the job. Although skating ability is preferred, it is not mandated, enabling candidates of varying skill levels to apply.
The Ice Rink Manager must work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate peak facility usage. There may also be occasions requiring overtime work. The ideal candidate will have a background in event coordination or facility management within a hotel, conference, sports, cultural, or entertainment venue. This experience ensures a familiarity with multi-event scheduling, equipment coordination, and public relations dynamics, which are transferable to managing the complex operations of a busy seasonal ice rink.
