The Bakery Clerk role at Hy-Vee is a non-exempt, daytime shift position within the bakery department. This position is responsible for reviewing daily bakery orders, preparing and replenishing bakery products in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining a friendly customer service approach. The Bakery Clerk plays a vital role in ensuring the bakery department operates smoothly by adhering to sanitation standards, managing inventory, and supporting both customers and team members. This clerk is the face of the bakery to customers, offering courteous assistance, taking orders, and creating a welcoming environment that encourages repeat business.
In this role, you will work closely with various store leadership positions such as the District Store Director, Store Manager, and Bakery Department Manager, aligning with company standards and operational goals. You will be expected to commit to maintaining a positive image for Hy-Vee by delivering professional, friendly, and efficient service. The position demands physical stamina to handle medium lifting and other physical activities integral to bakery operations. This role requires attentiveness to detail, teamwork, and a strong customer-focused mindset. - Less than high school education or equivalent experience
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience
- Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions
- Ability to do simple addition and subtraction
- Ability to copy figures, count and record
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
- Ability to write identifying information
- Ability to request supplies orally or in writing
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Good customer service skills
- Basic knowledge of sanitation procedures
- Physical ability to perform medium work
- Must be able to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Must be able to meet the visual requirements including clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision
