Currently, Griffith Company is seeking a Site Safety Manager to join the team working on the prestigious Automated People Mover (APM) project at Los Angeles International Airport. This role is crucial to maintaining a high standard of safety on the jobsite, ensuring that all construction activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations. The Site Safety Manager will collaborate closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent to cultivate and enforce a robust safety culture characterized by best practices in safety management systems, effective communication, personal accountability, workforce development, and genuine engagement with all team members.
The Site Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing multiple facets of workplace safety, including conducting jobsite orientations and safety trainings, leading enforcement of safety standards as per the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), and coordinating subcontractor compliance with safety regulations. They will lead incident investigations, prepare thorough reports, and ensure corrective actions are promptly taken. This role involves coordination of emergency response efforts, maintaining OSHA and Cal-OSHA postings, conducting safety audits, and ensuring compliance with traffic control plans and ground disturbance permits in accordance with California regulations.
Candidates for the Site Safety Manager position should have significant experience—at least 10 years in heavy construction and a minimum of 5 years dedicated to construction safety roles such as safety professional or supervisor. Specialized experience in airport construction projects is highly desired. A valid OSHA 30-hour Construction certification obtained within the last three years is required. Additional certifications such as OSHA Outreach Instructor, Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) credentials (CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, SMP), and First Aid CPR training are strongly preferred.
The role requires strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with project teams, owners, and contractors; proficient knowledge of excavation, confined spaces, fall protection, rigging, concrete and asphalt paving safety; and competence with causal analysis methodologies. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and accurate documentation and record-keeping skills are essential. Physical demands include walking uneven terrain, climbing ladders and scaffolding, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The environment includes exposure to varying weather conditions and elevated noise levels.
