This role is a critical position within BPHC, primarily focused on supporting the operations of a high-volume institutional kitchen that prepares and cooks more than 1800 meals daily. The accurate and efficient preparation of meals is essential in fulfilling BPHC's mission by ensuring that vulnerable populations receive nutritious, safely prepared food. Beyond meal preparation, this role includes a broad range of supervisory and administrative duties, such as inventory control, staff scheduling, training and supervising kitchen personnel, and maintaining compliance with sanitation practices. The position also liaises with various stakeholders, including social service departments and volunteer groups, to foster a supportive and efficient kitchen environment.
The role demands a hands-on leader who can navigate the logistics of food preparation and distribution in a fast-paced setting, often requiring flexible scheduling and occasional driving. It offers a unique opportunity for candidates with culinary expertise and a passion for public service to contribute meaningfully to the community’s health and well-being. The position is full-time with a Sunday through Thursday shift from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and the pay range is between $1,060.89 and $1,216.16 weekly. This role is not dependent on external grant funding, reflecting the stable organizational support behind it. Applicants must reside within Boston and be prepared to work on major holidays as needed, highlighting the essential, year-round nature of the kitchen services provided by BPHC.
- A D or BA BS in culinary arts restaurant and or food service preferred
- Five years progressive experience in production kitchen
- Requires working on Thanksgiving and Christmas days as well as other holidays when schedule requires
- Must possess and maintain all required certifications and trainings
- Servsafe certificate required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
- Valid MA drivers license with good driving record preferred
- Strong written and verbal skills required
