The Drug Abatement Representative role at Alaska Airlines is an essential position within the drug abatement team responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state drug and alcohol testing regulations. This role requires performing drug test collections and alcohol testing 24/7/365 based on the employee’s work schedule, emphasizing flexibility and dedication to meet operational needs. The representative will coordinate with local collection teams to manage testing schedules aligned with employee working hours at a designated geographic location. This position offers a variable number of work hours that can range from over 40 hours per week to less than 5, depending on testing demands.
Responsibilities include administering drug and alcohol tests in accordance with federal laws, state regulations, and Alaska Airlines’ policies. The role involves enforcing strict collection procedures, such as direct-observation specimen collections and identifying instances of refusal to test. The Drug Abatement Representative plays a critical role in guiding frontline leaders in managing various drug and alcohol testing scenarios, including post-accident testing and reasonable suspicion investigations. Maintaining accurate documentation, processing expenses, and managing testing supplies are key components of the position.
This role demands effective communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to deescalate tense situations, and meticulous attention to detail. Given the physical nature of the work, representatives must be capable of handling physical tasks such as lifting up to 40 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods. Candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years old, and authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred qualifications include certification in DOT drug test collections, knowledge of federal testing regulations, and proficiency with related operational software applications.
The position offers a salary range from $45,800 to $64,100 per year, with pay determined by factors including location, experience, and skill level.
