Within this prestigious institution, the Aviation Department is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Air Traffic Control Associate to join its team on a full-time basis. This role is integral to the training and development of future air traffic controllers, providing crucial support to instructors and enhancing the instructional experience for students. The position is based on the Grand Forks campus and offers an annual salary of $43,000 for a 40-hour workweek. It combines hands-on instructional duties with administrative and developmental tasks related to air traffic control simulation and coursework.
As an Air Traffic Control Associate, you will assist experienced air traffic control instructors in teaching and evaluating student performance, particularly in the operation of high-fidelity simulators like Adacel and UFA. You will be responsible for monitoring students to ensure adherence to air traffic control standards and regulations, grading academic assessments such as papers, tests, and quizzes, and occasionally filling in for instructors during their absences. Additionally, you will have primary responsibility for instructing the Introduction to Air Traffic Control (AVIT 103) course, delivering both classroom and laboratory instruction to equip students with foundational knowledge and practical skills.
Beyond instruction, this role involves maintaining the educational environment by overseeing the upkeep of labs, developing simulator scenarios, and preparing operational materials such as flight progress strips. The position demands a motivated self-starter who can work independently, communicate effectively, and make sound decisions relating to training issues. Teamwork and collaboration within the department are also essential to success.
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in Air Traffic Control or be a December 2025 graduate eligible for this position, possess experience with UND’s Adacel and UFA simulators, and have prior involvement with the UND Air Traffic Control Training Program. Compliance with a criminal background check is required for appointment.
