The role of a Ramp Agent is crucial within the airline's ground operations team, responsible for ensuring the smooth handling, loading, and unloading of aircraft. A Ramp Agent acts as the frontline technician who services aircraft during turnaround times, handling baggage, air cargo, and airmail, ensuring that all are safeguarded against damage, theft, or adverse weather conditions. This position requires physical strength, attention to detail, and adherence to strict safety protocols to efficiently manage and direct aircraft movements on the ramp.
Ramp Agents operate various types of motorized equipment such as belt loaders, air start units, lift trucks, and pushback tugs, working closely with wing walkers to maintain safety during aircraft pushback. The role includes recording and managing the transfer of baggage, freight, and company materials, preparing documentation as necessary, and ensuring compliance with company and airport regulations.
This position demands readiness to perform physically demanding tasks like lifting heavy items up to 70 pounds regularly, moving equipment, and working in varied environmental conditions including cramped or high places. Candidates must complete ramp and Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) training to obtain airport authority identification required for security protocols.
