The responsibilities are wide-ranging, including directing aircraft departures and arrivals, maintaining communications frequencies, monitoring navigational aids, and ensuring IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) separation standards where delegated. The incumbent is accountable for making timely decisions to balance efficiency and safety, providing pilots with weather and operational information, coordinating with other controllers, and managing emergency situations such as assisting lost or distressed pilots. This position demands both technical skill and the ability to maintain situational awareness over multiple facets of air traffic operation.
Applicants must possess a Control Tower Operator (CTO) Certificate and a current Class II Medical Certificate. Additionally, candidates should have previous experience holding a CTO or FAA credential with a tower rating for a minimum of six months. The role requires compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and FAA regulations, including drug and alcohol testing protocols. Compensation for this position is set at $45.05 per hour with an hourly wage rate of $4.98.
