This job opportunity is within the department that manages the industrial-size kitchen responsible for preparing and delivering over 3,700 meals daily to inmates and jail staff. The role plays a vital part in supporting the daily operations of the facility's food service, ensuring that a large volume of meals is prepared efficiently, safely, and up to strict quality standards. The position involves supervising an inmate kitchen work crew, fostering a team-oriented environment grounded in collaboration and open communication. The kitchen operates seven days a week, with shifts primarily structured as four 10-hour days, either Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday. The shifts vary between early morning and early evening, and flexibility to cover shifts due to illness or vacation is required.
This role not only emphasizes culinary expertise and operations management but also focuses heavily on training, instructing, and supervising inmates assigned to the kitchen work crew. Maintaining high standards for food quality, sanitation, and safety is imperative, given the setting within a correctional facility.
