The Work Study Student Employee Receptionist position in the Art and Design Department for Fall 2025 provides a unique opportunity for students who are federal work study recipients to gain valuable work experience in a professional academic setting. This part-time role is based at the Springfield campus, specifically at the Brick City building, and offers a pay rate of $13.75 per hour with a commitment of approximately 10 hours per week. The role involves a variety of front office duties essential to the smooth functioning of the department's main front office. Responsibilities include answering and transferring calls, taking messages, assisting students by providing information about advisor contacts and directions to classes, operating office equipment like photocopiers and shredders, and performing other administrative tasks as needed. Additionally, the role may involve supporting departmental research projects using Excel for documenting data and managing the POS (Point of Sale) system to assist students in purchasing photo supplies or paying class fees via their BearPass card.
The position requires candidates to be professional, self-motivated, reliable, and to exhibit an excellent work ethic. Preference will be given to individuals who have prior experience in a front office or receptionist environment, highlighting the importance of strong communication and customer service skills. This role is ideal for students who attend classes at the Brick City campus and those with flexible availability, particularly on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 to 3:30 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Employees in this role will contribute significantly to the positive student experience by acting as the welcoming face and support center of the department while gaining practical skills that enhance their academic and career development.
