The role being advertised is for a Cook within the Dietary Department at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home. This position is vital to the team that ensures veterans’ nutritional needs are met daily with the utmost care and dedication. As a Cook, you will manage the preparation and serving of meals following standardized recipes aligned with the nutritional and therapeutic requirements of patients. You will also have a leadership role, overseeing food service specialists and other staff within the kitchen, thereby ensuring that food preparation and service meet the highest sanitation and quality standards. This role requires the ability to estimate food needs accurately, adjust recipes as required, and maintain cleanliness in cooking and dining areas. The work schedule includes 8-hour shifts, with the necessity to cover both day and evening hours, including weekends and holidays, highlighting the commitment required to serve veterans at all times. - One year of food service experience in a food service operation
- or one year of training in food technology, food service management, or in a food service-related curriculum in a trade school or technical institute
- or twelve semester hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, food service preparation, home economics, or hotel, food service, restaurant, or institutional management
- willing to work 8-hour shifts including days, evenings, weekends and holidays
