The UAF Pub is currently seeking enthusiastic individuals to join their team as Pub Bartenders and Pub Sound Technicians. These roles are integral to ensuring the smooth operation and lively atmosphere of the Pub. The position offers a starting hourly wage of $15.50 plus tips, providing a competitive compensation package suitable for students. This is a flexible pooled student assistant role, ideal for students looking to gain valuable work experience while contributing positively to the campus community. As a Pub Bartender, you will be responsible for serving drinks, engaging with patrons, and playing a key role in executing events that make the campus social calendar exciting and memorable. The job requires excellent communication skills, the ability to handle money responsibly, and a thorough understanding of state laws and university policies regarding alcohol service.
Additionally, the Pub offers roles such as Pub Attendant and Pub Sound Technician, with specialized duties including daily maintenance, sound reinforcement, and managing technical aspects of live events. Pub Sound Technicians receive regular training to enhance their skills in sound operations, and prior experience with bi-amplified live sound reinforcement systems is preferred, although on-the-job training is provided. The roles require adaptability, cooperation with team members, and the ability to handle challenging situations with diplomacy.
Candidates must be at least 21 years old and willing to work evening and weekend hours to accommodate the Pub’s event schedule. There are also mandatory requirements for alcohol server education (TAPS certification) and a Food Worker card, which the Pub helps sponsor. The positions are contingent on passing a background check and maintaining the highest standards of ethics and professionalism consistent with the University of Alaska system's policies.
