The district is currently seeking a dedicated and hardworking Custodian to perform essential custodial duties at various district parks and facilities. The Custodian position is hourly and offers a competitive salary starting at $20.00 per hour, with a salary range that spans from $18.40 to $27.59. Scheduled primarily on weekends from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., there may be opportunities for additional hours. In this role, the Custodian is responsible for a variety of tasks integral to park upkeep. These include picking up litter and garbage, cleaning and maintaining restrooms, monitoring park conditions for issues such as vandalism or inappropriate behavior, and reporting these concerns as needed. The job requires the use of personal protective equipment when necessary and maintaining constant two-way communication with district staff and supervisors to promptly address any field concerns. Carrying a communication device like a two-way radio or cell phone is mandatory during work hours. Beyond the physical maintenance duties, this position emphasizes delivering high-quality customer service in a professional and courteous manner. The Custodian contributes to the overall team by supporting the Wheaton Park District’s core values of integrity, fun, commitment, adaptability and growth, kindness, and service. A strong focus on safety is critical, as the Custodian operates in varied and sometimes challenging environmental conditions that include exposure to weather, insects, tools, and potentially hazardous materials. Physical demands include the ability to walk continuously, occasionally climb ladders or stairs, manipulate tools, and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier loads. Environmental conditions may involve weather exposure, uneven terrain, noise, fumes, and occasional contact with chemicals or pesticides. A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
