The Utility Associate role at HMSHost at Portland International Jetport is a vital non-exempt position dedicated to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the facility. This role ensures the preparation areas, utensils, and equipment are sanitized and ready for use, contributing directly to the safety and well-being of both staff and customers. Responsibilities include cleaning a variety of kitchen and service equipment such as worktables, refrigerators, and meat blocks, using specified chemicals to meet stringent sanitary standards. In addition, the Utility Associate handles the cleaning of utensils, pots, and pans either manually or via dishwashing machines, and ensures that all items are stored in their designated places properly. The role also includes managing waste removal duties, which involves taking trash and garbage to designated disposal areas to maintain a clean work environment. Floor maintenance is a significant part of this job, where the associate is required to sweep, mop, scrub, and buff floors using heavy cleaning equipment. Additional duties encompass cleaning walls, windows, and steam cleaning trashcans to uphold hygiene standards. Stock management is another essential aspect of the role, which involves checking, dating, rotating, and monitoring the temperature of products to ensure food safety compliance. The Utility Associate is also responsible for transferring supplies and equipment between storage and work areas manually or by using hand trucks. The position demands assistance with loading and unloading supply trucks, requiring the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds. The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate physical stamina and agility, including the ability to bend, twist, and stand for extended periods. Good communication skills are necessary to interact amicably with both coworkers and the public, maintaining a friendly, enthusiastic, and outgoing demeanor. The Utility Associate must be capable of reading and comprehending instructions, correspondence, and policy documents.
