The Traffic Operator role is an exciting opportunity within Colliers Engineering & Design’s Highways & Traffic Engineering team located in Newark, New Jersey. This full-time position offers the chance to work in a fast-paced environment at a Port Authority (PANYNJ) facility, where the successful candidate will actively monitor and manage real-time traffic conditions. The Traffic Operator is responsible for observing, documenting, and mitigating both planned and unplanned transportation events to ensure smooth traffic flow within the landside roadway network and enhance the overall customer experience. This position requires collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders including senior leadership, first responders, law enforcement, and partner agencies. It involves working with various Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices such as Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Variable Message Signs (VMS), Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras, and traffic signal systems to gather and disseminate traffic information effectively. The operator must effectively analyze data from multiple sources and dashboards to make informed decisions that improve traffic operations while maintaining public safety. The role demands flexibility with work schedules, including the ability to work weekends, holidays, and off-hour shifts when necessary. It also offers competitive compensation ranging from $33.00 to $35.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications. • Valid US driver’s license
• Ability to read, write, and understand English
• 1+ years of traffic engineering/traffic operations experience
• Willingness to work on-site in-person as part of TMC team
• Ability to work weekends and holidays when required
• Ability to contribute to off-hour shifts or remote on-call support
• Ability to perform tasks effectively under pressure
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Ability to interface with ITS devices
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
• Ability to gather and analyze data from multiple sources
• Knowledge of traffic engineering principles
• Familiarity with the MUTCD
