The Aircraft Commander role is crucial within the department for providing aerial transportation for state employees as well as supporting aerial photography and mapping operations. The successful candidate will serve as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) or Second-in-Command (SIC) in various missions that enhance the state’s transportation infrastructure and provide vital aerial services. The role demands a candidate with a commercial pilot's certificate, including instrument, single-engine land, multiengine land ratings, and a high-altitude endorsement. Candidates must have significant flight experience, including at least 1,200 total flight hours, with 1,000 hours as PIC, specific cross-country and turbine experience, as well as demonstrated proficiency in flying multiengine airplanes and instrument flight hours. A minimum of a 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate is required. Preference will be given to applicants who hold a multiengine Airline Transport Certificate, have recent King Air flight experience and training, and show familiarity with FAR crew resource management standards. Working hours may include after-hours, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the dynamic and sometimes urgent nature of the department's aerial operations. Physical demands include the ability to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds.
