The Sports Events Manager plays a pivotal role within the Fort Worth Sports Commission, reporting directly to the Director of Operations. This exempt administrative position is responsible for collaborating on and executing seamless operations and logistics for a wide variety of sports events hosted or supported by the commission. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in ensuring every event not only meets but exceeds stakeholder expectations and supports the overall mission of the Fort Worth Sports Commission. This role demands not only comprehensive event planning expertise but also strong partnership development skills, business support acumen, and leadership abilities. In this role, the Sports Events Manager will develop and manage detailed event plans encompassing all necessary components such as opening ceremonies, banquets, community engagement efforts, permitting, staffing, security, and budgets. The position requires hands-on management of event logistics, budget oversight, and effective vendor partnerships to secure cost-effective resources. A key responsibility will be to act as a liaison with Local Organizing Committees for marquee events such as the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships and the PBR World Finals, ensuring smooth communication and flawless execution. Additionally, the Sports Events Manager will recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, providing the backbone needed for successful event delivery. The role also emphasizes stakeholder engagement, requiring the manager to build and maintain solid working relationships with national governing bodies, event rights holders, local sports associations, venue partners including colleges and private facilities, and hotel partners. This steady engagement supports events, lead generation, and overall business development. The manager will assist the Business Development team by reviewing potential sports event RFPs, participating in the development of recruitment strategies, and coordinating contract deliverables, including sponsor and client relations, event site visits, and partner meetings. Furthermore, the position involves community leadership through initiatives such as the Readers Become Leaders program in partnership with the NCAA, demonstrating a commitment to social impact. Internally, the manager is responsible for fostering a positive team culture aligned with organizational values and collaborating closely with departments like Marketing and Convention Services to enhance service delivery and client satisfaction. Maintaining detailed records in the CRM system and supervising interns are also integral to the position. The work environment blends in-office responsibilities with remote work and necessitates flexibility for evenings, weekends, travel to trade shows, and on-site event support. Physical demands include the ability to frequently lift, carry, push or pull up to 30 pounds and perform activities such as standing, walking, and bending for extended periods.   • Bachelor's degree in sports management, event management, hospitality, business administration or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of event management experience, sports event experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in event logistics, budget management, and stakeholder relations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively toward shared goals
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event management software/crm tools
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 20-30 lbs frequently
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching
