The position of Food Service Manager within the Market Grille department at Hy-Vee is a pivotal leadership role focused on delivering prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while managing the food service operations to ensure top-quality offerings at competitive prices. This exempt position reports directly to the District Store Director, Store Manager, and Assistant Managers overseeing Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home. The Food Service Manager supervises multiple department managers and staff including Market Grille, Mia Italian, and Hy-Chi department managers, chefs, service managers, and kitchen personnel. The role entails overseeing kitchen operations, inventory management, food quality, menu planning, and cost controls. The manager is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety while fostering a professional and positive work environment that supports employee engagement. Core competencies such as partnership-building, growth mindset, customer focus, professionalism, and results orientation are crucial to success in this role. Key responsibilities include greeting and assisting customers with patience and care, managing daily operational tasks through effective delegation, monitoring product displays and replenishment, coordinating with chefs on menu development and purchasing, and analyzing sales data to plan marketing and advertising strategies. This management role also involves hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising food service personnel, enforcing sanitary food safety practices, ensuring compliance with health and liquor regulations, and resolving customer complaints. The position operates within a fast-paced, demanding environment that requires physical ability to perform medium work involving lifting, climbing, and other activities, as well as familiarity with various kitchen and office equipment such as slicers, ovens, POS systems, and computers.
