The role of Sous Chef at MorningStar Senior Living is an integral position responsible for ensuring that all meals provided to residents are nutritious, balanced, and appealing. This full-time, non-exempt position offers a competitive pay rate of $27.00 per hour, with the schedule to be discussed during the interview, allowing for some flexibility based on the needs of the community. The Sous Chef is a key player in the culinary team, contributing not only their cooking expertise but also their passion for excellent food and service. This role encompasses overseeing food preparation, cooking, seasoning, and serving a variety of dishes including meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits, soups, salads, desserts, breads, and pastries according to established menus and dietary guidelines. The Sous Chef will operate within federal and state regulations and MorningStar's policies to maintain food safety and quality standards. This position demands a high level of culinary knowledge coupled with the ability to manage quantities, monitor portion control, and ensure that all food served complies with nutritional and dietary restrictions. Candidates for this role should have a strong commitment to teamwork, a good understanding of food handling techniques, and the capability to make independent decisions where appropriate. The successful Sous Chef will also engage in activities such as preparing raw ingredients, cooking with various methods including baking, roasting, stewing, and steaming, as well as tasting and adjusting food to ensure optimal flavor and presentation.
