The current opportunity is for the position of Sous Chef at Indiana University Northwest in Gary, Indiana. This role involves significant responsibility in the planning and directing of food preparation to ensure timely and high-quality food service. The Sous Chef will supervise kitchen staff, manage administrative duties, and maintain operational efficiency in food production. Duties include timing food preparation to coincide with service times, training staff, reading and understanding function sheets to manage menus and event timing, producing prep sheets and duty rosters, and employing batch cooking techniques to balance production load. Depending on the shift, the Sous Chef may also be responsible for opening or closing the kitchen properly. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for a Culinary Arts degree, and have between one to three years of cooking experience, preferably including supervisory experience. Certifications in ServSafe and First Aid are also desired.
