The role of the Sommelier or Wine Steward is integral to enhancing the guest experience by expertly managing the restaurant's wine offerings. Sommeliers hold the responsibility of ordering, selling, and serving bottled wines, requiring both a refined palate and a strong understanding of wine varieties and service. This position demands a current Sommelier certification to ensure expertise and professionalism in wine selection and presentation. Beyond the technical aspects, Sommeliers at RPM Italian are expected to provide exceptional guest service with warmth and tact, ensuring that each visitor's dining experience not only meets but exceeds expectations. The role is dynamic and involves multitasking within a lively and sometimes high-pressure restaurant environment, requiring calmness and efficiency. Responsibilities extend to developing the wine menu, maintaining professional relationships with purveyors, conducting wine tastings, and offering wine education and training for staff members.
