This position is for a full-time permanent System Safety professional within the CTA, specifically focused on Industrial Hygiene. The role involves the development, planning, and implementation of comprehensive Industrial Hygiene programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling physical, chemical, and mechanical hazards within the workplace while ensuring full compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and CTA regulations. This position involves working closely with various departments and contractors to analyze working conditions, conduct safety audits, and recommend improvements that enhance safety awareness and accident prevention. Key responsibilities include planning and supervising contractor activities related to sampling and testing, conducting audits of accident data to identify trends, and performing thorough inspections of CTA facilities, vehicles, and equipment. The Industrial Hygiene professional will assist in fostering a culture of safety by developing and implementing proactive safety initiatives, updating safety programs and training objectives, and collaborating with engineers to design control measures. This role requires strong technical skills in the use of industrial hygiene sampling tools and the ability to produce clear and detailed reports on findings and recommendations. This role demands frequent travel to various CTA sites, including facilities, garages, and train shops, in varying weather conditions and environments, some of which may be physically challenging or require working at heights or in confined spaces. The successful applicant should have strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. The position requires a bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, with at least five years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification are preferred. Working conditions for this role include general office work combined with fieldwork that demands physical activity such as climbing, walking long distances, and wearing personal protective equipment.
