The Senior Event Coordinator role at Georgetown University’s Office of Event Management is a vital position responsible for planning and executing a wide range of events that support the University’s mission. Reporting to the Executive Director of Capitol Campus Event Management and Scheduling, the Senior Event Coordinator plays an integral part in coordinating mid- to high-level events on both the Capitol Campus and off-site locations. This role requires hands-on management of event budgets, the creation of detailed timelines, and close collaboration with event sponsors to ensure that all aspects of programs run seamlessly. A key responsibility includes managing the increasingly complex Law Commencement events, which now span three days and multiple venues. This sustained focus on commencement logistics requires exceptional organizational skills and an ability to coordinate staff volunteers over an extended period.
In addition to commencement, the Senior Event Coordinator is charged with managing an array of events such as conferences, symposia, faculty functions, Capitol Campus orientations, Law Reunion celebrations, as well as receptions, dinners, and special events. This variety ensures a dynamic work environment where each event demands unique attention to detail and customization. The position also provides leadership and guidance to the broader events team, including the Event Coordinator and Event Assistant, helping to maintain smooth operations across all special event activities. While the role requires the ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously, it also involves collaborative efforts to support larger scale, complex events.
Designated as a Hybrid role requiring two days per week on-site presence, this position balances flexibility with the need for in-person coordination and leadership. Georgetown University offers a competitive salary range of $20.16 to $31.30 per hour, reflective of candidates’ qualifications and experience. This job promises a stimulating and rewarding workplace that values autonomy, initiative, and exceptional judgment skills, making it ideal for experienced event professionals who thrive in high-volume event settings in academic and non-profit environments.
Georgetown University is committed to inclusive hiring and offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, retirement savings, tuition assistance, and work-life balance supports. Joining Georgetown as a Senior Event Coordinator not only means being part of a renowned academic community but engaging with the rich cultural and political landscape of Washington, D.C., contributing to events that enhance both university life and its public mission.
