The Oregon Zoo, a key asset of Metro, is Oregon's most popular paid attraction featuring an array of global and native animal exhibits and educational programs. With over 1.5 million annual visitors, the zoo promotes conservation, wildlife awareness, and community engagement. The Events Division at the Oregon Zoo plays an essential role in enhancing visitor experience through the coordination and execution of both public and private events, including the beloved ZooLights holiday display. The Seasonal Event Worker position within the Events Division offers a vital opportunity to contribute to the zoo’s event operations. In addition to event setup and teardown, this position involves installing and maintaining seasonal lighting displays on buildings, trees, and grounds throughout the zoo. Troubleshooting electrical issues and performing minor repairs on lighting elements are also important duties. The role requires strong teamwork and communication as you assist zoo performers, clients, staff, and visitors. Maintaining meticulous logs and ensuring proper inventory of materials and equipment contributes to smooth event execution. Qualified candidates should possess a minimum of two years of experience or training in warehouse or maintenance duties and hold a valid driver’s license with insurability under Metro’s insurance policy. Forklift certification is required or must be obtained within 60 days of employment. Physical fitness is crucial, as the position demands frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional team lifts of heavier loads, as well as the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and wind. Other benefits include no-cost TriMet Hop Pass, Employee Assistance Program, and access to financial wellness resources. Employees also enjoy perks such as free admission to the Oregon Zoo and regional parks, discount memberships, and eligibility for credit union services. This is a variable hour, seasonal position with no guaranteed minimum hours. The work schedule includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during special events and the ZooLights season. Metro strives to provide a respectful and inclusive workplace, encouraging applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.
