The university prides itself on being a center for intellectual and cultural growth in Inland Southern California. CSUSB reflects the rich diversity of the region by enrolling one of the most varied student populations in the Inland Empire and ranks high statewide for African American and Hispanic enrollments. The university offers a broad range of academic programs and community engagement opportunities, aiming to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment. With a strong emphasis on first-generation college graduates, approximately seventy percent of CSUSB’s graduates are pioneers in their families, achieving higher education milestones for the first time. The university maintains a steadfast commitment to affirmative action, equal opportunity employment, and diversity across all its operations, including staffing, programming, and student life.
The Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU) at CSUSB is the social and cultural heart of the campus, serving students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and guests. It functions as a dynamic gathering place where the university community develops long-lasting connections and enriches their collegiate experience. The SMSU is committed to promoting cultural pluralism, gender equity, and ethnic diversity through diverse programming and welcoming facilities. Students benefit from numerous cultural, social, educational, and recreational activities designed to enhance personal development, student retention, and leadership skills. This environment supports relaxation, entertainment, social interaction, and hands-on learning opportunities through student employment and leadership roles.
The Custodian I position at SMSU is a full-time, non-exempt hourly role offering a competitive hourly wage ranging from $17.76 to $20.90. This position requires working 40 hours per week and occasionally includes flexible working hours such as evenings, weekends, extended hours, and holidays to address emergency or urgent custodial needs. The role’s primary scope involves executing general cleaning and custodial services independently or collaboratively with a team under the guidance of the SMSU Custodian II. Custodians ensure that the Student Union’s spaces are maintained to high standards of cleanliness and safety, contributing significantly to the daily operational success of the facility. They play a key part in supporting campus events by preparing spaces and managing post-event cleanups. The job also involves monitoring facility access to secure spaces against unauthorized entry and performing routine inspections of fire safety equipment and general housekeeping areas. Safety is a paramount focus, with the employee expected to adhere to established protocols in conducting their duties, including participation in safety training and maintaining safety documentation. The position does not typically include supervisory duties over other employees but may provide guidance to student assistants when necessary.
