The role of Retail Buyer and Event Partner at Pebble Beach Company is a unique and strategic position that bridges the gap between retail merchandising and client-focused event planning. This position is vital in crafting bespoke product assortments tailored specifically for corporate groups, tournaments, and special events that take place at the resort. Working closely with the Conference Services and Events teams, the Retail Buyer and Event Partner develops premium gifting solutions and branded products that resonate with the luxury and exclusivity associated with the Pebble Beach brand. This role involves direct collaboration with external companies hosting conferences at the resort, offering a high level of customization intended to reflect the prestige and elegance of the Pebble Beach experience.
The Retail Buyer and Event Partner is responsible for sourcing and purchasing high-end products suitable for group gifting and corporate events. They curate custom merchandise assortments aligned with the client’s objectives and the resort’s branding standards, while partnering with vendors to bring personalized, co-branded, and exclusive items to the forefront. To succeed in this role, they maintain an active awareness of current trends, manage inventory planning for advance bookings, and proactively participate in annual merchandise calendar planning to coincide with resort events and corporate engagements.
Strategic collaboration with the Sales, Conference Services, and Event teams is a cornerstone of this role, facilitating secure retail participation and maximizing group sales opportunities. Additionally, the individual is tasked with fostering strong client relationships by serving as the primary retail liaison for group clients, ensuring seamless coordination from initial concept through to product delivery. They attend site visits and client meetings to present product options and provide expert recommendations, aiming to build enduring partnerships that generate repeat business.
Financial stewardship is crucial in this position. The Retail Buyer and Event Partner works diligently to meet or surpass revenue and profitability targets, overseeing cost management, margin enhancement, and vendor negotiations. Vigilant monitoring and analysis of retail performance help to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Furthermore, operational excellence is upheld through collaboration with warehouse, fulfillment, and accounting teams to guarantee precise and timely order processing. This full-time role offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,000 to $80,000 annually plus bonus opportunities. - Bachelor's degree in business, retail management, or related field preferred
- Minimum 5 years' experience in retail buying, merchandising, or corporate gifting
- Hospitality or luxury brand experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of vendor relations, pricing strategies, and product customization
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with a client-service mindset
- Highly organized with strong project management skills and attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and manage multiple projects simultaneously
