The role of Transportation Safety Manager at NuCO2 is a critical position that focuses on maintaining and advancing the company's safety standards across its fleet operations. This role is designed for an experienced safety professional passionate about leading initiatives that prevent accidents, optimize compliance, and enhance fleet safety through innovative technologies. The Transportation Safety Manager will be responsible for managing driver qualification files, hours-of-service audits, and inspection records to uphold impeccable standards. This role also oversees the development and enforcement of safety policies across various districts, ensuring that all practices align with federal and state regulations.
An integral part of this position involves leading accident and incident investigations, performing thorough root-cause analyses, and collaborating with insurers and regulatory bodies to implement corrective actions. The manager will design and deliver specialized training programs tailored to CDL Class B drivers, covering critical areas such as HAZMAT and Tanker endorsement requirements, virtual reality simulations, fatigue management, and quarterly refresher courses to maintain driver readiness and safety awareness.
Furthermore, the Transportation Safety Manager will optimize telematics and electronic logging device (ELD) platforms like Samsara by building enterprise dashboards that drive predictive analytics and organization-wide coaching efforts. This analytical approach supports real-time decision-making and proactive safety management. Collaboration with the Fleet department is also a key responsibility, focusing on new truck builds with advanced safety features such as Level 1 and Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), collision avoidance technology, and ensuring compliance with original equipment manufacturers and vendors.
The role requires ensuring full regulatory compliance with FMCSA, DOT, EPA, and state regulations while spearheading audit readiness and managing regulatory inspections. Tracking and reporting safety key performance indicators like Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), Motor Carrier Safety Rating (MCSR), accident frequency and severity, and near-miss ratios are essential duties that enable the manager to provide actionable insights to executive leadership. Proactive hazard-identification workshops and alignment of operations teams on performance metrics are part of fostering a culture of continuous safety improvement.

Coordination with risk management, legal, and global SHEQ departments on incident planning, citations, and public relations protocols is also a vital aspect of the role. The position will pilot next-generation safety technologies including in-cab AI coaching, lane-departure mitigation, and enhanced ELD features to further reduce incident rates. The manager is expected to stay informed on emerging trends such as electric vehicle safety, autonomous vehicle readiness, and sustainability metrics, integrating these insights into NuCO2's long-term safety roadmap.
NuCO2 offers competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, disability, and life insurance; paid holidays and vacation; a 401(k) retirement plan; employee discounts; and opportunities for ongoing educational and professional development.
