Intermountain Health Flight and Ambulance, also known as Classic Air Medical and Life Flight, is a well-established leader in the air medical transportation and emergency medical services industry. As part of Intermountain Healthcare, a nonprofit health system known for its commitment to quality and innovation in patient care, this division specializes in providing critical rotor wing air ambulance services across multiple states including Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Arizona. The company is dedicated to offering safe, timely, and efficient transport for patients requiring urgent medical attention, often in locations that are difficult to access by ground vehicles. They operate under strict federal aviation regulations and manufacturer recommendations, ensuring that all aircraft operations adhere to the highest standards of safety and operational excellence. The organization is headquartered at the Valley Center Tower, which serves as the administrative hub, although it is not a flight base location. Bases include Elko NV, Winnemucca NV, Lander WY, Rawlins WY, Cortez CO, and Fort Mohave AZ, among others. The Rotor Wing Pilot position at Intermountain Health Flight and Ambulance is a critical one, responsible for the safe and effective operation of helicopter aircraft used in medical emergencies and transport. This role demands a highly experienced pilot who can navigate challenging flight conditions, including night flying and mountain operations, while maintaining open and clear communication with medical teams, dispatchers, and patients or their families. The pilot's responsibilities also extend beyond flying to include aircraft maintenance support, assisting medical crew with patient loading, and participating in safety and training programs. Compensation for this full-time, salaried position ranges from $41.11 to $58.75 per hour depending on experience. The role includes a generous sign-on bonus totaling $10,000, split into two payments at 90 days and one year. Shift schedules and exempt status vary by location, allowing some flexibility depending on the base assignment. Pilot in Command (PIC) duties require adherence to Federal Aviation Regulations Part 135, as well as compliance with company and manufacturer policies. Safety is paramount at Intermountain Health Flight and Ambulance, where pilots are expected to maintain current knowledge of aviation rules and contribute actively to the organization's safety culture. This includes serving as Safety Representatives or Instructor/Check Pilots to mentor peers and ensure continuous quality improvement. The role also emphasizes professional development, encouraging pilots to partake in training sessions and share expertise. Physical demands of the job are considerable, requiring pilots to be physically fit to lift and move equipment, assist with patient transfers, and operate in confined aircraft spaces. A physical ability to handle logistics related to emergency medical transport enhances the operation's overall efficiency and patient safety. Working at Intermountain Health means joining a culture that values employee wellness, diversity, and equal opportunity. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package designed to support mental, physical, and spiritual well-being, fostering an environment where caregivers can thrive. This role represents an exciting opportunity for skilled pilots who are passionate about aviation and patient care to make a meaningful impact in emergency medical services across multiple states.
