The role of the Pastry Chef aboard American Cruise Lines is a critical position supporting the company’s commitment to superior dining experiences. The Pastry Chef is responsible for the creation and execution of a wide variety of desserts, pastries, and baked goods, including confectionary items, that delight guests and crew alike. This role requires a strong culinary background with a passion for both the art and science of baking. The successful candidate must have a refined palate to appreciate subtle flavor combinations and a keen aesthetic sense for presentation. The Pastry Chef will work closely under the direction of the Executive Chef, adhering to the daily menu matrix and ensuring consistency in quality, taste, and appearance. This role demands dedication, as the schedule involves long working hours and living onboard for extended periods. - Ability to work around 14 hours per day
- Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts or pastry & baking, and/or 3-5 years of experience in quality production
- Ability to reach, bend, and frequently lift/move items up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods
- Basic understanding of professional baking and pastries and food & beverage knowledge
- Problem-solving skills, organization, and self-motivation
- Commitment to quality service
- Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
- Ability to adapt and adjust daily to last-minute requests or changes
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must complete a criminal background check
