The Pastry Chef role aboard American Cruise Lines' vessels is a vital position that contributes to the overall guest experience by crafting exquisite desserts, pastries, breads, and confectionery items. This role requires culinary expertise in pastry arts, including the ability to create a diverse array of baked goods with a refined sense of flavor pairings and artistic presentation. The Pastry Chef will follow a structured daily menu matrix while also incorporating creativity and innovation by researching and testing new dessert recipes to continually enhance the dining experience. Situated in well-equipped galleys featuring stunning views, chefs live onboard in comfortable quarters, working in a challenging yet rewarding culinary environment.
This opportunity is ideal for skilled pastry professionals who thrive in fast-paced, high-volume kitchens and who possess a strong commitment to quality and guest satisfaction. The position involves adherence to stringent hygiene and food safety standards, precise portion control, inventory management, and coordination with the Executive Chef to ensure smooth kitchen operations. American Cruise Lines supports its culinary staff by providing covered expenses including travel to and from assigned vessels, room and board, uniforms, and specialized paid training led by industry experts. The typical work schedule is challenging, involving seven days per week onboard during contracted periods, but the experience offers a unique blend of professional growth and the chance to explore diverse destinations across the United States.
- Ability to work around 14 hours per day
- Ability to reach, bend, and frequently lift/move items up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in a standing position for extended amounts of time
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must complete a criminal background check
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
