The Functional Check Flight Pilot (LUH-72) position is a highly specialized role responsible for conducting functional check flights (FCFs) on aircraft, primarily the LUH-72 Lakota and EC145 helicopters. This role involves utilizing advanced flight test techniques to assess aircraft performance and handling characteristics after maintenance or modifications, thereby determining airworthiness before release for operational flight. The pilot plays a vital role in documenting flight and maintenance records, troubleshooting aircraft systems both on the ground and in the air, and collaborating closely with military pilots and technicians to ensure all discrepancies are resolved efficiently.
Beyond flying duties, the Functional Check Flight Pilot may be tasked with performing as a site safety specialist or safety officer, participating in internal AS9100-AS9110 audits, and supporting continual improvement initiatives within the program. This dual responsibility demands a pilot with a strong technical acumen, proficient in aircraft technical inspections including powerplant evaluations and subsystem checks. The pilot will plan and conduct technical inspections, provide guidance on maintenance techniques and safety procedures, and maintain detailed technical records to ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
This is a demanding role that requires a minimum of 1000 pilot-in-command hours, proficiency in operating LUH-72 and EC145 aircraft, and adherence to Army and FAA medical and flight evaluation regulations. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, both oral and written, and demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct at the highest level. The position demands adaptability to challenging operational environments, including exposure to extreme noise, chemicals, temperature changes, and potentially austere living conditions during domestic or international travel.
Safety and compliance are paramount, with the pilot responsible for adhering to Army regulations such as AR 95-20 and AR 95-1, ensuring all flight operations meet stringent standards. Furthermore, candidates must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret US Government Clearance and relevant facility credentials. The role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of aviation expertise and military operations, contributing directly to the safety and reliability of critical military aviation assets. Amentum welcomes qualified professionals who are committed to excellence, safety, and mission success in this vital aviation role.
