The position of Operations Associate, classified as a Student Hourly role under the Student Help profile, is a vital part of the Parkside Student Center’s operations. This role entails supporting the day-to-day functioning of the Student Center, ensuring the smooth running of events and activities hosted within the facility. The Operations Associate acts as the primary liaison between the Student Center and its diverse customer base, including students, faculty, staff, and external visitors. They are responsible for implementing and monitoring the policies of the Parkside Student Center, ensuring that all operations comply with established protocols and safety standards.
In this role, the Operations Associate is expected to demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills by proactively managing incidents and emergencies when professional staff are not present. They perform hourly rounds to monitor guest activities and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the facility. Communication is a key component, as the Operations Associate coordinates event setups, provides directional signage, and handles inquiries effectively, always striving to meet customer needs promptly and professionally.
Collaboration and teamwork are essential, as the Operations Associate works with custodial staff, maintenance teams, and technical support to ensure successful event execution. They provide audio/visual support and manage technical equipment to enhance customer experiences. The role also demands proficient use of digital tools, including understanding the master event schedule and interpreting reservation details to plan setups efficiently.
Leadership is demonstrated through supervision of building use, maintaining order, security, and enforcing policies during shifts. The Operations Associate is entrusted with locking and unlocking the facility, assisting with event setups and teardowns, and ensuring adherence to the Student Center’s reservation and promotion policies. Professionalism and a strong work ethic are mandatory, with regular performance evaluations conducted to ensure quality and continuous development. Compensation for this position is competitive, offering $15 per hour, with a required commitment of 14 to 20 hours per week during semester periods, including nights, weekends, and some holidays. The position may also provide limited full-time employment opportunities during Winterim-term, Spring Break, and summer months.                 - Must be enrolled in courses at UW Parkside
 - minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 and have 6 non-audit credits
 - availability to work 14-20 hours per week including weeknights, weekends, vacation break periods and some holidays
 - availability to work at least two semesters
 - basic computer knowledge and skills
 - excellent customer service skills
 - excellent leadership and problem-solving skills
 - adherence to Student Employee Handbook and uniform dress policy
 - flexible hours and willingness to help with timely deadlines
 - operational knowledge of telephone, copier, and audio-visual and technical equipment preferred
 - ability to lift 50 pounds
 - must undergo performance reviews at least once per semester
